WorshipMatters: Music Stands

10 Essential Rules for Projecting Worship Lyrics

Wayfaring Stranger

Wayfaring Stranger is nearly 150 years old, and there are a lot of versions. It’s a bittersweet song, hoping and  trusting in the sweet eternal state promised in Scripture, while admitting the bitter realities of this current sin-stained life.

I tried to select the most gospel-centered lyrics for the version I compiled.

Stylistically we are just shooting for acoustic/folk/Americana, not trying for a country music flavor.

Here is a link to the lyrics sheet.

Here are three sets of guitar chords; I don’t play guitar, so hopefully they may be helpful:

And here is sheet music, but I think it is in a different key.

Here is a version with excellent soprano/alto harmony with supporting guitar:

Here is Johnny Cash’s version, with nice violin/fiddle intro & solo:

Here is Emmylou Harris’s version:

OpenLP: Presenting a Service

Definition of Ministry Roles

This post defines the roles and responsibilities used in WorshipTrac.

  • Video / Overhead Production: Create the overheads in OpenLP to be used in the worship service
  • Video / Overhead Presentation: Run the overheads, ensure the wireless remote is located and charged and given to the pastor at the beginning of the song service, start the PowerPoint at the end of the song service
  • Sound: turn on all equipment except the video computer, record the sermon, run the sound board, and mic up the pastor
  • Piano Backup / Video Presentation Backup / Sound Backup: prepare ahead of time and be ready to step in in case the primary piano/video/sound person can’t be present. You likely won’t have to do anything, but you’re ready just in case.
